About Me

My name is Cyan DeVeaux. I’m a sixth-year Ph.D. Candidate at Stanford University advised by Professor Jeremy Bailenson in the Communication Department and Professor James Landay in the Computer Science Department. As a member of the Virtual Human Interaction Lab and Human-Computer Interaction Group, my research examines how immersive technologies can shape the way we learn, create, and connect. My work aims to translate psychobehavioral and design research insights into guidance for building technologies that support enriching human experiences. My approach to research is interdisplinary, involving both quantitative and qualitative methods alongside the engineering and human-centered design of novel systems.

My work has been supported by the Stanford Accelerator for Learning’s Joyful Learning Seed Grant, NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, Stanford Graduate Fellowship in Science & Engineering, Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education Doctoral Fellowship, and Technology & Racial Equity Graduate Fellowship. I am also a Research Affiliate at the Stanford Futuring for Equity Lab and the University of Michigan Intersectional Tech Lab. I’ve previously work as a Research Scientist Intern at Meta Reality Labs Research and Microsoft Research. Prior to the Ph.D., I worked at Google as a Software Engineer. I hold an M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University and an interdepartmental B.A. in Computer Science and Visual & Media Studies from Duke University.
